Vernon W. Smith's Obituary
Vernon W. Smith, 86 yrs., of Columbia, IL, passed away at Touchette Regional Hospital, Centreville, IL. He was born in Harrisonville, IL, the son of the late Albert and Vera (Rippelmeyer) Smith. He had been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Columbia, IL. Vernon taught, and coached high school baseball, softball, and basketball, but baseball was his passion. Vernon was the Athletic Director with the Columbia School District. He also coached numerous Khoury League baseball teams in Columbia. After retirement, Vernon worked at the Columbia Golf Course and enjoyed numerous golf trips with friends.He was married to Lucille (Kremmel) Smith, who survives him. They were married on July 29, 1950, in Columbia, IL.
