Our thoughts & prayers are with your family during this difficult time. Mr. Smith taught me, Dori, several classes, my most memorable being English. There was no falling asleep in his class. We remember how his voice would start booming as soon as anyone appeared to be drifting off, not to mention an eraser or two whizzing by your head on it's way to it's target! He was one of our favorite teachers & knew how to get the point across. We only hope that the future holds many more like him for generations to come.

Both my daughter Michelle and I remember many happy times with the Smith family. When Tillie Smith's brother Ernst (my husband) was killed, I received a sympathy message which had this ending: "Dearest Lord, Thou has not done me wrong,
I thank Thee for the precious loan afforded me so long."

I never had Uncle Vernon as a teacher, but he was a role model for me growing up. I remember how he would pitch the baseball with me and Ken at the family gatherings and give us tips on throwing techniques. Not that it made a baseball player out of me but he did teach us how important movement and sports are. With his genuine interest in young people, I'm sure he was a good educator. We will all cherish his memory.

Vernon was a wonderful, friendly, outgoing man who made Lee's stay in the nursing home nicer. Charlie liked to talk to him and found him to be a remarkably christian man. We will miss his open and friendly face in the nursing home. Our most sincere condolences for your loss.
