I had the most Handsome Uncle with the Coolest car! A Gold, T-top Trans-am.. must have been about 1978ish.Before he had his 3 beautiful kids, there was just me. He took me to several Cardinal baseball games. He always came prepared with snacks and drinks for us. I remember a Coleman cooler jug, filled with lemonade and a bag of ice so the lemonade would not get watered down. He had something special to add to his lemonade. One game I was able to bring a friend and the night before he told us to make signs with our favorite player's name, Tommy Herr #28! We went early that game to try and get his autograph. I remember Uncle Tom making his way to the front and asking Tommy Herr to sign our ball his disappointment when he was just passed on by.
I remember just him and I going to a Cardinal Football game. I do not remember anything about the actual game other than this part that sticks out: He had us both sit on a full newspaper and he lit cans of sterno under our seats. Again, he had plenty of snacks and a thermos of hot chocolate for us to drink.
We had countless fish fries at my Grandparents house with the fish he had caught. Him and Pawpaw would fry, talk, laugh and drink beer. Family was important to him and he was always with Debbie and the kids at our Grandparent's house to fry fish, just to hang out and spend the night. I cherish these memories and so sorry he struggled the last few years and his kids had to endure this as well. I am sorry for your loss. Rest in Peace Uncle Tom. Love Lori
