Mrs. Spurgeon was born in Laurel County, KY, daughter of the late Roscoe and Edith (Miller) Pennington. She had been an aide with the Columbia Unit District #4, Columbia, IL, and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Columbia Read Obituary
Shirley was always such a friend in the church, school and community. She will be missed.

We will always remember you for opening your home to 2 young Aussie tennis players from SBU. For all the times we laughed together and the wonderful caring person you were. We have comfort in the fact that we know you are now in a better place, pain free and will enjoy eternity with your loved ones. To your family and children we pray that you will find peace knowing that your mom was such a caring and loving mother and wife and she loved you so very much. She will be deeply missed by all. What a precious, gentle spirit Shirley was. She will be missed greatly by her church family, especially the Fallons and Hopewells. I pray her meeting with Jesus was as awesome as any could ever be.
