Louis Peter Wessel's Obituary
Louis Peter Wessel, 86 years of Millstadt, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born October 18, 1936, in Millstadt, Illinois.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Smithton, a member of the Knights of Columbus 4741, retired Teamster Local 50, and a charter member of the Millstadt Coon Hunters Association. When Louis wasn't working he was enjoying his passion of raising cattle, maintaining his Millstadt farm, hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. He also enjoyed watching sporting events, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, but most of all he loved the time spent with his family watching his kids and grandkids playing sports.
On May 21, 1960, at St. Peter Cathedral in Belleville, Illinois he married his love Nancy Davis and shared sixty two years of marriage together. Through this marriage they had five children.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Lee Wessel of Millstadt, his children; Jeffrey (Dana) Wessel of Millstadt, Barbara (Keith) Jacob of Smithton, Heidi (Mark) Gehrs of Millstadt, Peter (Susan) Wessel of Millstadt, and Lucas (Melissa) Wessel of Smithton, his thirteen grandchildren, Louis, Sarah, Ben, Steve, Doug (Raven), Nancy, Gretchen (T.J.), Charlie, Lydia, Abby, Ellie, Ava, and Peter, his two great-grandchildren Liam and Cohen, his sister, Janet Isom of Belleville, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard John Wessel; his mother, Anna Wessel; his three brothers, Bernard Wessel, Maurice Wessel, James Wessel; his three sisters, Dorothy Friedman, Helen Bechtel, and Geraldine Eads.
Visitation will be Monday, January 2, 2023, 9:00am - 11:00am, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, Illinois. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, January 2, 2023, at 11:00am with Father Stan Konieczny officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery, Millstadt, Illinois.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude memorial contributions be directed to Shriner's Hospital for Children 4400 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110.
