Lavern W. Lang's Obituary
Lavern W. Lang, 92 years, of Smithton, IL, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, O Fallon, IL. He was born June 6, 1928, in Millstadt, IL.
Lavern retired in 1989 as a rural mail carrier and retired from farming in 2017. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Floraville, Illinois, Illinois Rural Letter Carriers, past president Modern Woodman, Smithton Turner Society, past president Floraville Community Grange, past president St. Clair County Pomona Grange, member of the Executive Committee of the Illinois State Grange, National Grange, former trustee for the Smithton Fire Protection District for many years, former Smithton Consolidated School Board member for many years. Lavern was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War, and on June 16, 2018 he had the distinct privilege of taking the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
Surviving his wife of 67 years, Lucille Lang, nee Ries, his children, Lynette (Don) Schaeffer, Lana Korte and Leon (Joan) Lang; his grandchildren, Justin (Christina) Schaeffer, Brandon (Tina) Lang, Jolene (John Jr.) McDonald, Brian (Andie) Lang and Becca (Matt) Aguayo; his great-grandchildren, Francesca Lang, Anthony Skodachek, Joseph Skodacheck, Bailey McDonald, Logan McDonald, William Boddy, Olivia Schaeffer, Lillian Schaeffer, Gage Lang, Brynn Lang, Felix Aguayo, and Katalina Aguayo; his sister, Myrt Metter; his sister-in-law, Delores Lang; he is also survived by nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry G. and Edna, nee Luetzelschwab, Lang, his son-in-law, Jerry Korte; his brother, Harold Lang; and his sister, Vera Stumpf .
Visitation will be Monday, October 19, 2020, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt, IL, and an hour before service on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday October 20, 2020 at Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt, IL., with Rev. Matt Friz, officiating. Interment will follow in the Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Illinois.
