Mike was my father-in-law. At his daughter Kelly's and my rehearsal dinner, he gave an eloquent and moving speech on love, marriage, and happiness.
For the first several years of our marriage, he mowed our yard as a "wedding present." He always loved playing with our three daughters. When it snowed, he would often come over to our house and build snow men or have snowball fights with the girls in our backyard. When we had a kiddie wading pool, he once stepped in with the girls and danced around while singing a silly song; the girls loved it.
In going through the family pictures for his picture board, I remembered how much I enjoyed being part of the Donovan family. Over the course of 15 years, we had scores of Thanksgivings, Christmases, Easters, birthdays, Mother's Day, and Father Day celebrations at our house. His parents were alive for many of those years and were able to join us. The pictures tell a story of a family enjoying each other, kids running around playing with cousins, babies being held, and adult children coming home. Mike was a warm, kind, loving man that I will miss.
