Hello dear family of Delores. My name is Tara Lindhorst Meyers. My grandmother, Jane Shireman, had her hair "did" by Delores for as LONG as I could remember. My grandmother could not and would not drive, in fact, she had never applied for a driver's license so, when she went on her weekly appointments she would walk to and from Don and Delores' home, usually with me in tow. I can remember as early as 6 or 7 (1976 or 1977) that Grandma and I had walked from her home on Main Street (Hough School end) - down the alley to a road, which we would follow for a good distance down several block eventually arriving at Delores' home.
I remember grandma and I would go in, unannounced, and down some stairs into the basement where Delores had her beauty shop. I remember the "open" stairwell and either orange and black or red & black shag carpeting on these stairs, upon which I would sit and watch Delores perform her "magic" on my grandma. I remember snooping around the beauty shop and into a room (I think) past all the hair dryers and on the walls were pictures of all her kids with whom she would boast proudly of in my presence.
She loved her family immensely and even I, as a young girl, could feel that love she carried with her. I LOVED going to Delores' Beauty Shop, it was such a treat for me!!
In closing, I would like Delores' family to know that my grandma Jane LOVED Delores immensely and Delores LOVED my grandma Jane.
