Darrell C Ostertag's Obituary
Darrell C. Ostertag, 82 years of Dupo, IL, passed away on July 16, 2021 at Missouri Baptist Hospital, Town and Country, MO. Darrell was born September 27, 1938, in Dupo, IL, to John Sr. and Elise Ida Ostertag. He married Elizabeth (Betty Politsch) Ostertag on October 5th, 1968, she survives.
Also surviving are son, Darrell (AmberLynn) Ostertag of Waterloo, IL; daughter, Janice (Kenneth) Korsmeyer of Grantfork, IL; grandchildren, Katrina, Alissa, Makayla, and Evonna Korsmeyer and Jaxson Ostertag; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Evelyn and David Schneidewind, and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Darrell was a veteran in the Army, serving during the Bay of Pigs. He went on to work for Lancet Medical and later for Ely E. Yawitz Company in St. Louis. Darrell enjoyed many things in life, like collecting. He was a collector of Crown Top Soda Bottles, beer steins, antiques, stamps, and coins. He also enjoyed gardening, making baskets, telling jokes and stories, and reading newspaper comics. He loved dogs and was a big supporter of the Veterans, frequently donating to veteran organizations. He liked to be outdoors, helping people with their yards and going on vacations. Darrell was a very proud grandfather and was crazy about his grandchildren.
Darrell was preceded in death by 3 brothers and his parents, John Sr. and Elsie Ida Ostertag.
Darrell's biggest accomplishment was getting his brother, Vernon Ostertag's name on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, DC.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 22nd from 4-7PM at Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo, IL. Services will be held Friday, July 23rd at Christ United Church of Christ in Dupo, IL, with Rev. Todd Mushaney officiating. Interment will follow in the Valhalla Gardens Of Memory, Belleville, Illinois.
