Darrell R Atkins' Obituary
Darrell R. Atkins, 81, of Madison, MS, formerly of St. Louis, MO., born, June 20, 1934 in Gentry, Ark., passed away, Tuesday, June 23, 2015 in St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson, MS.
Darrell was a former pastor of First Baptist Church in Dupo, Ill., and former chaplain for Family Hospice of Belleville. He served as interim pastor, supply pastor, hospital chaplain, admissions worker in colleges and pastor of various churches in Missouri and Illinois.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Sam & Lydia, nee Whiteside, Atkins, his four siblings, Audrey Moffitt, Wayne Atkins, Dean Atkins & John Atkins.
He is survived by his wife, Earlene Atkins, nee Kizer, whom he married December 25, 1954, his daughter, Wyndy (Joe) McRoy, his son, Jeff (Kelly) Atkins, his grandchildren, Anna (Daniel) Bembower, Kimberly (Sam) Davidson, Sam Atkins, Jacob Atkins & Darren McRoy, his great grandchildren, Elijah, Colton & Sadie, his siblings, Dorothy Sliger & Harold Atkins. He is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to JDRF (Greater Missouri & Southern Illinois Chapter, 50 Crestwood Executive Center, #401 St. Louis, MO. 63126), Charity of your choice or Church of your choice.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 28, 2015 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Dashner-Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo, Ill.
Funeral Service will be on Monday, June 29, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Webster Groves Baptist Church (308 Summit Ave, St. Louis, MO. 63119), with Pastor John McRoy, officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
