Arnold E. Hogan's Obituary
Arnold Edwin Hogan, 97 years old of Red Bud, IL, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Oak Hill Care Center, Waterloo, IL. He was born May 7, 1923, in Unity, IL.
Hogan had owned and operated his own jewelry store, and enjoyed designing unique pieces for his family and friends. He was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Red Bud, IL. He was a United States World War II Marine Corps Veteran. He was an active member of the VFW Post 6632 in Red Bud, IL, where he was Past Commander. Golf became his passion later in life, and he played until the age of 88. Hogan was instrumental in creating the North County Country Club in Red Bud, and was a Charter member. Most will remember him grumbling about slow golfers and was often heard saying, "Hurry up, hit the damn ball".
Surviving are his wife, Mildred Evelyn "Mitze", nee DeRousse, Hogan, whom he married January 6, 1945, in San Diego, CA, daughters, Patricia (John) Horrell of Red Bud, IL and Karen (Roger) Nacker of Madison, WI; grandsons, Brian (Kristy) Nacker of Middleton, WI, Gregory Nacker of Minneapolis, MN, Nick (Shannon) Horrell of Red Bud, IL, and Luke (Allison) Horrell of Red Bud, IL; granddaughter, Jennifer (Dominic) Landretti of Middleton, WI; six great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Joe (ErmaJean) Hogan, of St. Charles, MO, John (Mitzie) Hogan, of Springfield, IL, and Janice Niederstadt, of Beaumont, TX, along with other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas W. and Lavendar Cleo, nee Oglesby, Hogan, granddaughter, Amy Lynn, along with two brothers, Thomas (Aretta), and Bob (Catherine) Hogan, two sisters, Barbara (Jack) Porter, and Virginia Hogan; sister-in-law, Joyce Hogan; brother-in-law, Ron Niederstadt.
Due to the Governor's orders, the family has decided to hold private services.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to VFW Post 6632, 830 S.
