William Darrell Ross Sr.'s Obituary
William Darrell Ross Sr., 81 years old, of Columbia, IL passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at his home in Columbia, IL. He was born April 13, 1941, in Palmyra, IL.
William received his Bachelors degree from Illinois College and his Masters degree in Chemical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. William retired from Anheuser-Busch as a Quality Assurance Packaging Manager. After retirement, he worked as a Manager at Grand Manor Independent Living Center in Belleville, IL. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Columbia, IL., and he served for many years as President of the Tri-County Little Devils football and wrestling organizations.
William was preceded in death by his daughter in infancy, Karen Suzanne Ross, his daughter, Heather Kathleen Schlemmer, his parents, Charles H. and Inez (nee McGarvery) Ross, his sister, Audrey H. Blalock, brother, Robert L. Ross, and his brother-in-law, Richard Blalock.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Jean Ross (nee Metzger), his sons, William "Darrell" (Carole) Ross, Jr. of Daniel Island, SC., Darren (Barb) Ross of Belleville, IL., and John (Carrie) Ross of Mascoutah, IL., his daughter, Jennifer (Tim) Schmidt of Valmeyer, IL., his step-children, Christine (Reed) Hoffman of Poplar Bluff, MO., Robert Copling of Collinsville, IL., James (Rhonda) Copling of Mansfield, MO., and William Copling of O'Fallon, IL., his 8 grandchildren, Amanda, Colton, Kaitlyn, Jake, Aspen, Sienna, Brock and Garrett, his brothers, Charles "Jack" (Eleanor) Ross of Greenfield, IL., and Gerald (Mary Jane) Ross. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.
At William's request, he will be cremated and a private family service will be held.
