William Joseph Kleinschmidt, Jr., 84 years of Columbia, IL, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2012, at home, with his family by his side. He was born May 10, 1928, in Millstadt, IL, son of the late William J., Sr., and Charlotte (Oerter) Kleinschmidt. He was married to Helma (Stemler) Kleinschmidt, who survives him. They were married September 10, 1950, in Columbia, IL.He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Columbia, IL, and American Legion Post #581, where he had been a member for over 55 years (Post #581services 7 pm Sunday evening). Bill had served in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He had retired from Spectrolite, Venice, IL, where he had worked as a metal fabricator. Bill never gave up, he was always on the go, a friend to all, with a joke to tell anyone who would listen. He was the best dad and grandpa you could have.
