William "Bill" John Cowell's Obituary
William "Bill" John Cowell, 79 years of Waterloo, Illinois, formerly of Red Bud, Illinois, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Oak Hill Care Center, Waterloo, Illinois. He was born July 19, 1943, in Red Bud, Illinois.
He married Linda Warren on, August 30, 1969, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Red Bud, Illinois. She proceeded him in death on November 23, 2011.
Bill retired from the City of Red Bud working in the Utility Department, he proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, was a District Deputy of the Knights of Columbus, he was also a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 1952 where he was a Fourth Degree Knight, member of St John the Baptist Catholic Church where he was a former Parish Council Member, and was an active member of the VFW Post 6632 Red Bud. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, taking the scenic route on road trips, hunting for arrowheads, playing cards, Coffee Clutching at Casey's in his later years.
He is survived by his son, Christopher (Tammi Burmeister) Cowell of Waterloo, his siblings, James (JoAnne) Cowell of Red Bud, Patricia Miller of Red Bud, and Dolores (David) Young of Red Bud, his brother-in-law, Larry Blow, his sister-in-law, Janice Cowell, his two grandchildren, Kendell (Scott) Block of Kansas City and Logan Cowell of Tennessee, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Cowell; mother, Alfrieda Cowell; his wife, Linda J. Cowell; his brother, Thomas Cowell; and his sister, Mary Blow.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 17, 2022, 9:00 am - 11:00 am, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Red Bud, Illinois. Services will be held , Saturday September 17, 2022 11:00 AM, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Red Bud, IL., with Father Dennis Schaefer, officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Catholic Cemetery, Red Bud, Illinois, with full military honors.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to VFW Post 6632, 830 S. Main St., Red Bud, IL 62278 and to St. John the Baptist Catholic School, 519 Hazel St., Red Bud, IL, 62278.
