Wilbur "Wib" Harold Miller's Obituary
Wilbur “Wib” Harold Miller was born on September 26, 1933 in Belleville, Illinois to George and Viola Miller (nee Jacobus). After 88 years of a life well-lived, Wib passed away with family by his side on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, Illinois.
He was happily married to Margie Miller for over 36 years until her death in 2008. Together, they raised five wonderful children, traveled the nation, and saw their family expand multiple generations. Wib was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Throughout his life, he maintained a positive impact on his community.
Wilbur Miller retired from being a Union Plasterer (Local 90) with Weis Co. after 32 years. He served as a Belle Valley School custodian for eight years, and a school bus driver for another eight years. He was a member of the Columbia Lodge 474 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Ainad Shrine, and Southern Illinois Court 86 ROJ. He was also a life member of the Ainad Brass Band where he kept the rhythm alive playing the bass drum.
Wib was a life member of the Millstadt Sportsmen’s Club, where he served as Treasurer for 16 years. He taught Sunday school at Zion Church in Millstadt, as well as being a sponsor for the Zion Youth Fellowship Group. He chaperoned the Zion Youth Group to the World’s Fair in 1967. Wilbur managed Khoury League baseball in Millstadt for six years and was League Commissioner for another six years. He was in the Millstadt Commercial Club, too.
Wilbur Miller is preceded in death by his parents, George and Viola; his step-mother, Anna Miller (nee Osterhague); his brother, Lester; his step-siblings, Raymond, Laura, Myrtle; his wife, Margie; his daughter, Vicky Mueller (nee Brown).
He is survived by his sons, Glenn Miller, Danny Brown, Wayne Brown; his daughter, Cindy Litteken (nee Brown). Wilbur leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Those who had the honor to call Wib “family” have been blessed. To have known a man with such love in his heart is to have known a good man.
His family would like to give a special thanks to the staff and residence at Cambridge House and the nurses on the 4th floor at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon, IL.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 6th, 2022, 3:00 pm – 7:00pm at Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt, IL. Services will be held Friday, January 7th, 2022 with a visitation at 9:00 am and a funeral service, officiated by Matt Friz, beginning at 10:00 am at Leesman Funeral Home, in Millstadt, IL.
In lieu of flowers and other physical memorials, Wilbur Miller requested donations be made to the Shiners Hospital in St. Louis and the United Church of Christ in Floraville, Illinois.
