Wendell Holmes Hooks, 96, of Dupo, Ill., passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the Freeburg Care Center with his daughter-in-law by his side. Wendell was born February 10, 1919 in Cairo, Ill., to Seldon Kirk and Julia Holmes, Ho Read Obituary
Wendell was my mother's cousin, and I became acquainted with him shortly after we moved back to Illinois in 2006. Though I only really knew him as an older gentleman, I saw in him the "twinkle in the eye" humor of the Hooks family that we share, and the devoted churchman and friend that I know he was to so many over the years there at First Baptist Church in Dupo. I will miss our visits there at the nursing home where he spent his latter years, but look forward to meeting him again in heaven, when we both have been made knew through our faith in Jesus Christ. -- Nate Adams
Thank you Wendall for all that you did for our church family. I might not have been able to see you in the last couple of years. But I take great joy in knowing that I will see you and Bea one day. My mother always told me that you and Bea were the first couple that she remembers at FBC after her and Dad moved here after the WWII.

I worked on the railroad with Wendell, and also lived across the street from him for several years. He was good to work with and a good neighbor. Rest in peace Wendell.
