Virgil Osborn Stevens
Virgil Osborn Stevens, 72, of Dupo, IL, born on July 4, 1946, in St. Louis, MO, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018, at home, surrounded by his family.
Virgil went to East Carondelet Grade School and Dupo High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1972 including two tours in Vietnam. He retired from Daimler Chrysler after 35 years. He was married to the love of his life on December 13, 1969, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dupo, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Gertrude Stevens, grandson, Jacob W. Stevens, and best friend Larry Stogsdill, Uncle Melvin, and Aunt Tody Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, nee Harvell, Stevens of 48 years. Children Jason (Becky) Stevens of Millstadt, IL; Jeff (Sarah)Stevens of Dupo, IL; grandchildren, Audra, Avey, Alexis, Logan, Colton, and Abagayle Stevens; sister, Hazel (JE) McMath, of Russellville, AK; cousin Lurline Brown, of Grenada, MS; and nieces and nephews. Sister-in-law, Jessie (J.Lee) Boyd, of Farmington, MO; brother-in-law, Greg Harvell, of Dupo, IL; sister-in-law, Gayle Gilmore, of Dupo, IL; Doug (Mary) Harvell, of Dupo, IL; Brother-in-law, Mike Highes, of Dupo, IL.
Care has been entrusted to Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo, IL. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Dupo on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from 5-8 PM.
Funeral Services will be held at the church on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Roger Reid officiating. Interment will follow at Valhalla Cemetery in Belleville, IL.
In lieu of customary remembrances, Memorial contributions may be made to the sound system fund at First Baptist Church in Dupo, IL
