Virgil Lee Goetting's Obituary
Virgil Lee Goetting, 88 years of Red Bud, IL, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019 at Integrity Health Care of Columbia, Columbia, IL. He was born July 30, 1931, in St. Louis, MO.
Virgil was retired from Inter-City Products. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church (Priaire) in Red Bud, IL., VFW Post 6632 in Red Bud, IL., and he was an Army veteran having served during the Korean War.
Surviving are his daughter, Cindy (Matt) Schaefer of Red Bud, IL; his son-in-law, Lyle Nitzsche of Evansville, IL; his granddaughters, Chelsea Nitzsche, Ciara Schaefer, Sabrie Nitzsche; his grandson, Grahm Nitzsche; his great-grandson, Cain Huegle; his sister, Gloria Salger; his sisters-in-law, Barbara (Richard) Mehring and Ruthy (Kennith) Nagel, Brothers-in-law, Robert Martinez and Wesley (Carol) Dueker. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sophia Judy Goetting; his daughter, Christine Nitzsche; his parents, Hugo and Clara, nee Piel, Goetting; his brother-in-law, Norman Salger; his brother, Glennon Goetting; and his sisters-in-law, Elaine Goettlng and Betty Martinez; he was also preceded by 5 nieces and 3 nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 5-8 p.m. and Koch-Liefer Funeral Home in Red Bud, IL., and an hour before the service on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church (Prairie) in Red Bud, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday September 12, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Red Bud, with Rev. Scott Hojnacki, officiating. Interment will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Red Bud, IL.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis.
