Virgil D. Casey's Obituary
Virgil Casey, 90, passed away on Sat. Oct. 28th at Mercy South Hospital with his family by his side.
Virgil was born June 12th, 1933 in Steeleville, IL to Herman B. Casey and Lara (Abernathy) Casey. He graduated from Gorham, IL High School. He moved to Dupo in 1952 and served two years in the US Army.
In 1957, he married the love of his life, Mildred "Mickey" Wolf. Together they had two daughters, Debbie and Brenda. Virgil worked for Monsanto Co. in Sauget, IL for 34 years. He served as President of the International Chemical Workers Union Local 12 and was President of the ICWU Pension and Insurance council.
He took a leave to work as a Vice President and Regional Director for the ICWU. He retired in Dec. of 1996. After which, he and Mickey enjoyed traveling.
Virgil was a member of Dupo VFW 6368, Dupo American Legion 485, and the Shriners.
He served on the Dupo Village Board and was a former Mayor of Dupo. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dupo and a member of the Dupo Walk of Fame.
Virgil is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mickey Casey, his two daughters; Debbie (Randy) Weston and Brenda (Pete) Nichols, Bonus daughter, Kim (Greg) Zweifel, special nieces who have helped him so much, Donnis Casey and Sheila Bowlin, grandchildren; Amy Reed, Kenny (Megan) Weston, and Kaysie Nichols (John Rainwater), great-grandchildren; Alexa and Lacey Reed, Blakely Wilson, Kate and Colt Weston, and many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and many, many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters and their spouses and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 6 , 2023 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dupo, IL. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, November 6, 2023 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dupo, IL.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Masses.
