Viola Caroline Wetzel's Obituary
Viola Caroline Arras Wetzel, a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and much more to so many, passed from this Earth on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, and is at peace with her husband, Charles Michael Wetzel, her mother Christina Arras, her father John Arras, sons Raymond Wetzel and Marvin Wetzel, daughter-in-law Donna Wetzel, son-in-law Paul Kyle, grandsons, Elmer and Joel Wetzel, great granddaughter Alicia McClain, and eleven siblings. Viola leaves behind a sizeable family who will miss her dearly: Edna Wetzel, LaVerne and Gerard Lavoie, Larry Wetzel, Annette Kyle, Cynthia and Robert Elder, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and twenty-two great great grandchildren.
Viola was 98 years young at the time of her passing and was devoted to her family, which included not only her six children but seven foster children.
Viola will be remembered for her strong spirit, good nature, stubbornness that always seemed to stem from a place of love, her ready smile, hardy laugh, and ability to play a mean card game or two. She loved quilting and made each of her children, grandchildren, and friends quilts, all made with her love. Viola filled every room she was in with warmth and she truly had a genuine and loving soul.
Viola may not have flown for the first time until she was eight-two years old, but she traveled the United States from coast to coast. She climbed in heals and picked wild berries. God bless this beautiful woman and welcome her to the Kingdom of Heaven to be amongst her family and friends forever at peace.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 20, 2017, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Columbia, IL. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 pm, at the church, with Pastor Bob Goddard, officiating. Interment will follow in the Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to: St. Paul United Church of Christ, 127 N. St. Paul, Columbia, Illinois 62236. For more information, please access our website, www.lawlorfuneralhome.com.
