Vernon Herman Lucht's Obituary
Vernon Herman Lucht, 90, of Red Bud, IL, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born September 14, 1934, in Red Bud, IL.
Vernon started farming at the age of 15 and inherited the farm in 1952 at the age of 17. He milked cows from 1950 - 1994, and in 2013 he took over as "foreman" of the farm. Vernon began his farming career behind a horse and plow and finished his career in tractors with GPS systems. He served as an official recorder of rainfall for the National Weather Service from 1975-2021, he delivered papers for the North County News in 1999. Vernon and Jane were very strong active members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Red Bud (Prairie), IL., and he served as a former trustee at Trinity. Vernon loved the St. Louis Cardinals, he followed all local sports, and he enjoyed playing solitaire & sudoku. Vernon and Jane were very loving parents and would do anything for anyone.
Surviving are daughters, Denise (Orville) Heller, Genelle (Darwin) Koenen; sons, Kevin (Kerry) Lucht, Warren (Susan) Lucht, David (Cari) Lucht; ten grandchildren, Jeremy (Beth) Heller, Joshua (Star) Heller, Jonathan (Cassie) Heller, Leslie (Matt) Gustafson, Monica (Jake) Jansen, Natalie (Dillon) Thies, Ashley (Michael) Murphy, Courtney (Joel) Bonnett, Ross (Sandra) Wendt, Ryan (Katelyn) Wendt, Anna, Samantha, Easton, and Chase Lucht; great-grandchildren, Mason Heller, Cole Heller, Riley Heller, Lena Heller, Benjamin Heller, Stella Walter, Henry Walter, Wesley Heller, Cooper Gustafson, Alexander Gustafson, Nolan Thies, Madelyn Thies, Evie Bonnett, Collins Bonnett, Greyson Bonnett, Loagan Murphy, Miles Murphy, Banks Wendt; sisters, Bonnie (Edward) Piel, Charlene (Gary) Woods; along with other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Jane C., nee Hitzemann, Lucht whom he married on October 14, 1956, his parents, Armin H. and Lena, nee, Guebert, Lucht, and his two sisters, Luella Lucht and Elsa Stellhorn.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Red Bud (Prairie), IL. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday April 16, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Red Bud (Prairie), IL, with Rev. Scott Hojnacki officiating. Interment will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Red Bud, IL.
