Vernon John Kremmel's Obituary
Vernon John Kremmel, 89, of Belleville, Ill., born December 21, 1925 in Columbia, Ill., died Thursday, April 16, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, Ill.
Mr. Kremmel retired after 48 years as an operating engineer from Columbia Quarry. He was a member of the Columbia Masonic Blue Lodge A.F. & A.M., Shriner’s, & Scottish Rite for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Wednesday Kloepper Club, Millstadt Commercial Club & Hungary Eleven. He was a United States Navy Veteran of WWII. He enjoyed dancing and playing cards. He was an avid Blues fan & Cardinals fan.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years whom he married June 20, 1948, Erna Kremmel, nee Muskopf, his parents, John & Alma, nee Kuni, Kremmel, his daughter, Judy Gilbertson, his son-in-law, Mark Gilbertson, his granddaughter, Kelly Gilbertson and 2 sisters, Blanche (Art) Parrott & Florence Hoock.
He is survived by his daughters, Marge (Robert) Wolfmeier & Nancy (Tim) O’Donnell, his grandsons, Kyle (Kim) Gilbertson, Clark Gilbertson, Eric (Beth) Wolfmeier, Neal (Amber) O’Donnell, his granddaughters, Jill Wolfmeier, Julie & Abby O’Donnell, his great grandchildren, Brandon, Noah & Charlotte Gilbertson, Isabelle & George Wolfmeier & Isla O’Donnell and his dog Mandy. He is survived by other relatives & friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 19, 2015 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Strauss-Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt, Ill.
Funeral Service will be on Monday, April 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Strauss-Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt, Ill., with Rev. Darrell Weber, officiating.
Burial will follow at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery in Millstadt, Ill.
