Vernon H. Koester's Obituary
Vernon H. Koester, 90 years of Red Bud, IL, passed away on January 3, 2026 at Red Bud Regional Hospital in Red Bud, IL. He was born August 12, 1935, in Red Bud, IL.
Vernon was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Bud, IL. Vernon worked for 23 years as a truck driver for Behnken Truck Service. He retired from the Red Bud School District after several years of service. Vernon enjoyed camping, gardening and playing cards. He was a United States Army Veteran. His grandchildren were the center of his life, he loved to go to their sporting events.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce A Koester, his sons, Todd (JoAnn) Koester & Wade (Shelly) Koester, his grandchildren, Brennan (Elizabeth) Koester & Mackenzie (Collin) Wendel, along with other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August & Mathilda, nee Busche, Koester, his sisters, Norma Guebert, Erna Stellhorn, Emma Wegener, Edna Bunte & Ruth Buch, his brothers, Alvin Koester & Ervin Koester.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 8, 2026, 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Leesman Funeral Home, Red Bud, IL.
Services will be held Friday, January 9, 2026 at 10:00 am at St. John's Lutheran Church, Red Bud, IL, with Pastor Mark Winkelman officiating. An hour visitation will take place prior to the service.
Interment will follow in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Red Bud, IL.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church.
