Vernon G. Henry's Obituary
Vernon G. Henry, 81 years old, of Red Bud, IL, passed away on January 29, 2021 at Red Bud Regional Hospital, Red Bud, IL. He was born February 19, 1939, in Ames, IL., the son of the late Roy, and Mildred, nee Mudd, Henry.
Vernon had a very full life. He was a self employed over the road truck driver, having also driven for Twin Lakes Trucking. In addition to truck driving, he and his wife were the former owners of "Henry's Sno Queen" in Red Bud, IL, "Mor Strikes Lanes" and "Curve Drive In", both in Evansville, IL. He had also managed "The Log Cabin" and "Four Way Lounge". He had operated two gas stations in Baldwin, IL. and was the executive chef at "Diamond Lil's" restaurant in Belleville, IL. He and his family had founded "Henry Brothers Dairy Farm" in Ames, IL. He also served as the grounds manager for the Red Bud City Park. Vernon was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic church, Red Bud, IL and a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council 12152, Red, Bud, IL. He had also served in the U. S. Army. He dearly loved his family, and was always concerned that the "kids had something to do".
Surviving are his former wife, Shirley, nee Kern, Henry; children, Bruce (Anna) Henry of Baldwin, IL, Tina Steibel of Red Bud,, IL, John Henry of Carbondale, IL, Christopher (Sandra) Henry of Red Bud, IL, and Tari Henry of Red Bud, IL; grandchildren, Laura, Danielle, Cassie, Lacie, Sierra, and Alexis; great-grandchildren, Dominic, Layla, Stella, Henry, Wesley, Hatley, Allision, Jacob, and baby to be born; brothers, Cletus (Ruth) Henry, Ralph (Janet) Henry, and Roger (Marie) Henry; sister, Virginia Moeller, along with other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Curtis (Janette) Henry; sister, Vera Henry; and brother-in-law, Larry Moeller.
Vernon has gifted his body to Washington University Medical School, Saint Louis, MO. A celebration of Vernon's life will take place at a later date.
