Vernon C. "Marty" Mueller's Obituary
Vernon C. "Marty" Mueller, 88 years of Millstadt, IL, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, IL. He was born July 5, 1935, in Stookey Township, IL.
Marty and Helen owned and operated Millstadt Carpet for 25 years until 2000 when their son, Scott and daughter-in-law Angela took over the family business. Marty was a member of Concordia United Church of Christ, Carpenters Local 1997, Millstadt Commercial Club, Columbia Blue Lodge 474 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite and the Ainad Shrine where he was a member of the Ainad Brass Band and played drums in the parades. Marty was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War from 1958-1960.
Vernon was always known as "Marty", lots of people never even knew his real name was Vernon. He never met a stranger, was always greeting folks with a "hello" and always had a smile on his face. He enjoyed life with family, friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and Helen loved to attend the grandkids events, whether it was band concerts, dance recitals, cheerleading, baseball, football, basketball or bowling. Marty was no stranger to hard work as his passion was carpentry and woodworking. Whether it was building a home or building a bench, it was done with perfection and skill. He shared these skills within the community also. He was well known to lend a helping hand at Concordia Church, whether it be a "work" project or working a chicken dinner. If it was nearing Millstadt homecoming time, you could find him at the float shed, mastering up a float or two. He also was in charge for many years organizing the bands for the parades.
Marty loved his farming he did on the side, throwing and loading hay bales was always a family event. He could always be found on a tractor, especially his Ford. He loved his country music and whistled while he worked. Lastly, the man ate more peanut M & M's than you can imagine.
Surviving are his daughter, Mary Beth (Kurt) Pellmann, his son, Scott (Angela) Mueller, his grandchildren, Alex (Paige) Pellmann, Alyssa (Luke) Andres, Chandler Mueller, Brylee Mueller & Amariss Mueller, his great grandchildren, Tessa Pellmann & Oliver Pellmann, sister-in-law, Dianne Mehrmann of Millstadt, IL., his brother-in-law, Dennis Garland of Freeburg, IL., along with other relatives and friends.
