Terry Joseph Kalmer's Obituary
Terry J. Kalmer, 72 years of Red Bud, IL, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Nexus of Columbia, Columbia, IL. He was born December 22, 1953, in Red Bud, to the late Joseph and Joyce, nee Whiteside, Kalmer.
Terry was a carpenter and handyman by trade, but a helper by nature. If something was broken, he fixed it. If someone needed help, he showed up. He didn’t hesitate, didn’t keep score, and never asked for anything in return. That was just who he was.
His craftsmanship can be seen all over his hometown of Red Bud-porches, decks, repairs, and projects that quietly stand as reminders of his hard work and care. But even more lasting than anything he built with his hands is what he built with his heart: strong family bonds, lifelong friendships, and a reputation for being someone you could always count on.
Terry was a devoted father to Mandy Kalmer and Matt Kalmer, proud grandfather to Samantha Kolweier, Kelsey Kolweier, Chance Kalmer and Mason Kalmer. His family meant everything to him. He loved spending time with them, telling stories, and helping however he could. He taught by example, showing the value of hard work, honesty, and kindness through the way he lived every day.
Terry loved with all his heart. Donna (Kalmer) Bracknell was always introduced to everyone as his very best friend. Even though they were no longer married, Terry’s everlasting love for Donna and his heartfelt friendship with Ernie Bracknell stand as a testament to the wonderful man he was.
Those who knew Terry will remember his steady presence, his willingness to help, and the simple goodness he brought into the lives of others. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and quiet strength that will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren, and everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
In addition to his best friend, children and grandchildren, he is survived by his brother, Kevin (Della) Kalmer, nephew, Kory (Heather) Kalmer, great nephew, Joe Kalmer, along with other family and friends.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public services.
