Shirley Mae Baltz's Obituary
Shirley Mae Baltz, nee Sliment, 94 years of Millstadt, IL, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Freeburg Care Center in Freeburg, IL. She was born January 2, 1931, in East St. Louis, IL.
Shirley was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Floraville, IL. She taught Sunday School at Zion Evangelical Church in Millstadt for many years, was past President of the Millstadt PTA, she quilted at Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Surviving are her son, Thomas (Doreen) Baltz, her daughter, Marcia Baltz, her two grandsons, Scott (Julia) Baltz and Todd (Kelly) Baltz, her five great-grandchildren, Avery, Karson, Hudson, Finley and Brock Baltz that also knew her as Momo and Gigi, her sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Sliment, nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Louis Baltz, whom she married on June 3, 1951 and who died on July 10, 2017, her brother, Kenneth Sliment, her sister, Marilyn Sliment, her parents, James and Genevieve, nee Dent, Sliment, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Russell & Ida Baltz, her brothers-in-law, William N. Baltz and James H. Baltz, her sisters-in-law, LaVerne Baltz and Virginia Hoehn and her brother-in-law, Russell Hoehn.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff at BJC/Memorial Hospital in Belleville and the staff at Freeburg Care Center for their compassion and care for Shirley.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, and an hour before the service on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt, IL. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday March 11, 2025 at Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt, IL., with Rev. Matt Friz, officiating. Entombment will follow in the Valhalla Gardens of Memory Mausoleum in Belleville, Illinois.
