Sherry Jean Doty's Obituary
Sherry Jean Doty, a retired social worker, died on Friday, June 30, 2023, at her home. She was 74.
She was born on November 8, 1948, in Hardtner, Kansas, to the late Charles & Norma Chance, where she graduated from Alva High School in 1966.
She obtained a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University and a master’s in social work from Saint Louis University. While attending Northwestern Oklahoma State, she met and later married Robert Jay Doty. From this union came twins, Erin Elizabeth and Brian Patrick.
After obtaining her master’s degree, she became the Director of Social Work at Memorial Hospital, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and Home Health Services.
After retirement, she enjoyed taking care of the animals on her nature preserve, traveling with her daughter, and spending time with her three grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Doty of Red Bud, Illinois; her children, Erin Toohey and Brian Doty of St. Louis, Missouri; her grandchildren Chloe Toohey, Catherine Toohey and Alec Doty of St. Louis, Missouri; her sister Vernette Chance of Wichita, Kansas; and other family members and friends.
Visitation will be at the Leesman Funeral Home in Red Bud, Illinois on July 9, 2023, at 1:00 pm. A memorial service will begin at 2:00 pm.
Memorials may be made in her honor to any charity benefiting animals.
