Ruth Catherine (Ferkel) Gastaldi, 90 years of Saint Louis, MO, passed away on January 15, 2014. Beloved wife of 54 years of the late Reno J. Gastaldi; dear sister of the late Vi (Norvin) Kampschroeder and the late Elmer P. (Mary) Ann) Ferkel; dear godmother of Mary Alice (Ferkel) Riley; dear aunt of the late Kenneth (Doris) Ferkel, David Kampschroeder, the late Karl Kampschroeder, Karen (Kampschroeder) Oyer, Celia Reynolds, Susan Beatty; dear great aunt of Debra (Ferkel) Braniecki, Linda (Ferkel) Gibson, Kenneth Ferkel, Jr., cousin of Alma Girard, and aunt cousin and friend of many others.
Ruth was born April 18, 1923, in Columbia, IL. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul U.C. of C. in Columbia, IL. She was the daughter of the late John and Katie (Wilde) Ferkel. Ruth graduated as Valedictorian from Columbia High School in 1941 and then attended Brown's Business College. She worked as an executive secretary for Boatman's Bank and Thomas A. Edison, Inc.. Ruth married Reno Joseph Gastaldi, an accomplished sculptor, in 1953. together they ran a successful statuary and fountain business for more than thirty years known as Reno Studios - Sculptured Originals, and retired in 1985. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2003. During her life she was active in many school, church, and civic affairs.
