Roy L. Cooley's Obituary
Roy L. Cooley, 95 years of Columbia, IL, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at his residence. He was born June 13, 1929, in Manila, AR.
Roy was retired from the Illinois State Police. He was a member of Columbia American Legion post 581, the Retired Illinois State Police Association, he was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and he loved to golf.
Surviving are his loving wife of 40 years, Darlene M. Cooley, nee Peterson, whom he married on March 16, 1984 in Mt. Vernon, IL. his son, Scott W. (Keyma) Bullock, his grandchildren, Dylan Bullock (Brandi Roberts), and Sydney (Jake) Leckliter, his great grandson, Owen Leckliter, his sister-in-law, Donna (Jerry) Bumpus, his great niece Tammy Call and her daughter Emily, and Debbie (Brad) Sanders and their family. along with other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Sr., and Pearl, nee Gibbs, Cooley, his brother, Ralph Cooley Jr., his mother-in-law, Lenora Bumpus and his brother-in-law, Donald Peterson.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Leesman Funeral Home in Columbia, IL. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Chuck Smith, officiating. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Columbia, Illinois.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to Columbia Police Dept., Columbia Volunteer Fire Dept. or Columbia EMS .
