Roberta "Betty" E. Mann's Obituary
Roberta 'Betty' E. Mann, 90 years, of Columbia, IL, passed away on August 29, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, O Fallon, IL. She was born February 4, 1928, in Columbia, IL, daughter of the late Rudolph and Emilie, nee Wehking, Brink. She was married to the late Kenneth C. Mann. They were married December 28, 1950, at St. Paul U.C. of C. in Columbia, IL. He had passed away February 24, 1999.
Betty attended grade school in a one room school house in New Minden, IL, taught by her father, and graduated from Hoyleton High School. During her youth she played the violin, piano, and sang in many school productions. She attended SIU - Carbondale, and received her associates Degree in Primary Education, and then taught kindergarten and first grade at Columbia Unit #4 from 1948 - 1950. Thereafter, she became a full time devoted homemaker.
A personal achievement very special to her was learning to drive and earning her license at the age of 40.
Memberships include active leadership positions in various organizations in excess of 30 years for some, at St. Paul U.C. of C. Women's Fellowship and Monroe County Home Extension, and later a member of Columbia Senior Citizens.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Kent Mann of North Oaks, MN, and Perry Mann of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Jennifer, Kimberly, Charlotte, Spencer, Joel, and Kyle Mann, along with other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 1, 2018, 9:30 am - 11:00 am, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Columbia, IL. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, at the church, with Pastor Bob Goddard, officiating. Interment will follow in the Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery, Columbia, IL.
