Robert E. Upchurch's Obituary
Robert Eugene Upchurch, 81, of Columbia, Illinois, passed away at St. Anthony's Hospital, St. Louis, MO. He was born in East St. Louis, IL, the son of the late James and Eunice (Lane) Upchurch. Mr. Upchurch received his high school education in Dupo IL, served as a military police officer throughout the Korean war during the early 1950’s. He is married to his longtime wife of 62-years, Earline M Girard, also a Cahokia native.Bob retired from Union Electric (Ameren) where he worked as a machinist for 43-years. While holding down a full-time job, Mr. Upchurch also owned and operated Upchurch Insurance Agency, with the help of his wife Earline, for 53-years.Throughout residing in Cahokia, Mr. Upchurch was active in public service, he served on various boards and committees for the betterment of the community, to include 45-years of service on the Cahokia Police Board, in addition, he was the Commissioner of the Police Pension board. Mr. Upchurch was also a director on the executive board of the Cahokia bank for 20-years. He was instrumental in the planning and development of both the Bi-State Parks airport and the Cahokia public pool and ice rink.
