Robert F. Schlegel, 81 years of Columbia, IL, passed away on November 15, 2017 at St. Anthony's Hospital, St. Louis, MO. He was born January 10, 1936, in East St. Louis, IL. He was married to Mary, nee Robertson, Schlegel, who survives him. They were married March 8, 1955 in Salem, MO..
Robert was a retired mechanic from Gateway Western Railroad in East St. Louis, IL. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Columbia, IL. He had served in the U.S. Air Force.
Also surviving are his son, Robert S. (Barbara) Schlegel of Columbia, IL; daughter, Cheri L. (James) Flynn of Columbia, IL; two brothers, William John Schlegel and Frank Schlegel both of Oklahoma; sister, Geraldine Sturdivant of Salem, MO; two grandsons, Robert Wayne Schlegel and Austin Reed Flynn; step-granddaughter, Shanna (Tafton) Earls of West Plains, MO; three step-great-grandchildren, Braxton, Braitton, and Brooklyn Earls, along with other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents William John and Louisa, nee Grosse, Schlegel and brothers, Richard and Donald Schlegel.
Visitation will be Friday, November 17, 2017, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Lawlor Funeral Home, Columbia, IL. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday November 18, 2017 at the funeral home, with Pastor Allynn Walker officiating. Interment will follow in the Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery, Columbia, IL.
