Patsy Jean Napier's Obituary
On Wednesday, July 14, 2021, Patsy Napier, loving mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 74. Patsy was born on December 4, 1946 in Corinth, Mississippi to Dutchess and Hoyet Wood.
Patsy met the love of her life and married Gary Napier on August 27, 1965. From that marriage, they had Kevin and Kathy. Unfortunately, she lost her love on January 1, 1989, but she demonstrated unbelievable strength to continue to be a dedicated and loving mother to Kevin and Kathy, helping them heal from the horrible loss.
Patsy was a successful career woman in the insurance industry, excelling at everything she did with a determined sparkle in her eye. In addition to her career, she returned to college later in her life, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Spanish from The University of South Alabama.
After retiring from her exceptional career, Patsy found her true calling: books. Patsy began volunteering with the Friends of Fairhope Alabama Library, first working on book repair, soon becoming a staple to the library and those she worked with.
The lights of Patsy’s life were her grandchildren: Taylor, Natalie, Andrew, and Sadie. From holidays and birthdays to dance recitals and graduations, Patsy was there for it all. She was the very first to brag about those kiddos, and they will carry her in their hearts forever.
Patsy was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law (though she considered them her own children and grandchildren). She will be missed by her family, “adopted” family, and beloved friends.
With an endless ability to love, Patsy was a beautiful example on how to live life to the fullest, seeing the best in everyone and never meeting a stranger. With a Diet Coke in one hand and Missy’s leash in the other, Patsy is walking side-by-side with Gary, laughing all the way.
Patsy is proceeded in death by her loving husband, Gary Napier, her mother, Dutchess Wood, her father, Hoyet Wood, her brother, Garry Wood, and her mother and father-in-law, Wilma and William Napier. She is survived by her children, Kevin (Pam) Napier and Kathy (Dave) Loless, her grandchildren, Taylor (Sydney) Napier, Natalie (Christopher) Linck, Andrew Loless, and Sadie Loless, her brother, Larry (Patricia) Wood, her “adopted” Allen Family, and many beloved friends.
Please join the family in celebrating Patsy’s life. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 29 from 5-8pm, and services will be held Friday, July 30 at 10:30am at Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo, Illinois. Interment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at the South Beach Pier Park in Fairhope, Alabama on August 8 at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Friends of Fairhope Alabama Library in Fairhope, Alabama.
