Pamela Cook Nixon's Obituary
Pam Cook Nixon, who died in her sleep on April 1, was born in Chagrin Falls OH on January 3, 1948, the youngest of four children to Helen and John Cook. In high school her creative talents began to show through painting and ceramics. She enrolled in The Ohio State University in the Arts History program and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Purdue University with a degree in Sociology.
During those years Pam fell in love with and married Forrest Nixon from Pensacola FL. They adopted a son, Bradford Jonathan and a daughter, Christina Joanne. Over the years, they lived in Columbus OH, Lafayette IN, Decatur AL, Keithville LA, and Columbia IL. During that time, Pam raised two kids, earned a BS in Nursing from North Alabama University, worked as an emergency room nurse, and served in neonatal intensive care, pediatrics and dialysis.
She was creative and so very talented. She designed their house of 25 years in Louisiana, was CASA of the Year, threw pots, creating unique hand-built pieces, was a weaver, created beautiful flower wreaths, made jewelry, quilted and dabbled in paints. She loved and looked for the good in people, making friends for a lifetime. She believed in the Lord and especially loved her family. She fought depression most of her life and was blessed with excellent professional support. Pam lived a good life, making this world a better place, and was looking forward to her tomorrows. She is, and will be, missed.
Pam is survived by her husband of 52 years, Forrest Nixon of Columbia, IL, her daughter Christina Nixon of St. Louis; her sister and spouse, Sue and Les Polgar in California; her brothers and their spouses, Jim and Pam Cook in Ohio and Bill and Grace Cook in Washington state. Her granddaughters are Libby Christina, Kelly and McKenzie in North Carolina and Rianna, Adalyn and Mavis in California. She was delighted by her great grandson, Jaymen, and was anticipating a great granddaughter on the way. Pam was preceded in death by her son Bradford Nixon two years ago.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at her church, St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Oakville at a future date when we can all safely meet and embrace. In lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be sent to St. Paul’s UCC Oakville or the charity of your choice.
