Olan Eugene Miller's Obituary
Olan Eugene Miller, 89 years of Red Bud, IL, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022 at Red Bud Regional Hospital, Red Bud, IL. He was born April 21, 1933, in St. Louis, MO. .
Mr. Miller was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church (Prairie) in Red Bud, IL. He grew up in the St. Louis area and went to high school at Red Bud High School where he loved playing baseball and was scouted by a major league team.. He was also captain of the basketball team and was homecoming king. (He married the homecoming queen) He was a United States Navy Veteran. He was honorably discharged Aviation Ordnanceman Petty Officer 3rd class. Once discharged he returned home and began a career as a machinist at McDonnell Douglas and then a 30 year career as a machinist at Illinois Power (Ameren). He retired at age 61.
In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf at various area courses with his buddies and eating breakfast at different local restaurants. He was a talented woodworker and made beautiful pieces of furniture for his family members. He coached his sons little league team and most enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife Eunice (Hentis) Miller of Red Bud whom he married December 20, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church, his son, Daniel (Kim) Miller of Red Bud, IL, his daughters, Patricia (Steve) Crook of Waterloo, IL, & Susan (Doug) Barnfield of Red Bud, IL, his grandchildren, Elizabeth (Stephen) Walker of Maui, HI, Andrea (Zach) Ingles of Perryville, MO, Colton (Samantha) Crook of Kansas City, MO, Kady (Zachary Rhodes) Barnfield of San Francisco, CA, & Kelly Barnfield of St. Louis, MO, his great-grandchildren, Karis Walker and Jay, Tripp & Macie Ingles, his sisters in-law,Faye Miller of Myrtle Beach, SC & Eileen Stumpf of Columbia, IL, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Olan & Daisy, nee Dace, Miller, his brother, Dale Miller, father & mother-in-law, Fred & Ida Hentis, his brothers-in-law, Paul Hentis & Norman Stumpf & his sister-in-law, Jeanette Hentis.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 18, 2022, 11:00 am - 1:30 pm, at Leesman Funeral Home in Red Bud, IL. Family and friends will process to the church for services at 2:00 pm, Saturday June 18, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in (Prairie) Red Bud, IL. Pastor Scott Hojnacki will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in (Prairie) Red Bud IL.
