Norman Dale Newton's Obituary
Norman Dale Newton, 84 years, of Columbia, IL, passed away on April 10, 2019 at Mercy South, St. Louis, MO. He was born January 6, 1935, in Columbia, IL, son of the late William and Eleanora, nee Otten, Newton. He was married to the late Bernice, nee Hankammer, Newton. She had passed away January 16, 2011.
Dale had owned and operated the Neighborhood Shell Service Station, Columbia, IL, for many years. Later on, he was a truck driver with Churchhill Trucking, St. Louis, MO, and belonged to Teamsters Local #600. He was a U.S. Navy Reservist, long time member of the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department., Immaculate Conception Church, and Columbia Gymnastic Association.
Surviving are four daughters, Linda Naumann, Connie (Kevin) Fingerhut, Julie (Greg) Brouk, and Peggy Newton; five sons, Ron (Mona) Newton, Roger (Cindy) Newton, Curt (Lisa) Newton, Marty (Tracy) Newton, and Michael (Amy) Newton; grandchildren, John Naumann, Angie White, Ashley Newton, Rachel Brouk, Triston Newton, Lindsay and David Newton, Ryan (Carly) and Reed Newton, Kyle and Kelly Newton; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Kolten, Aspyn, Isabella, Croix, Haley, Peyton, Laycee, and Brantley, along with other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his three sisters, Shirley Todd, Sharon Burnes, and Gwenda Capper, along with a brother, Arthur Dean Newton.
Visitation will be Friday, April 12, 2019, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Lawlor Funeral Home, Columbia, IL, and Saturday, April 13, 9:00 am - 9:45 am, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 411 Palmer Road, Columbia, IL. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 13, at 10:00 am, at the church, with Fr. Carl Scherrer, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
