Norman Arthur Bivins
Norman Arthur Bivins, 77, of Dupo, IL., born April 7, 1947, in E. St. Louis, IL., passed away Friday, June 21, 2024, in St. Louis, MO.
Norman was a dedicated father, grandfather, husband, uncle, brother and brother-in-law who will be fondly remembered by his family and friends. He was an US Navy veteran who valiantly served his country in the Vietnam War on the USS Page where he jokingly stated that the most precious cargo was barbed wire and beer but was proud of his service. After his military time Norman went to work for Norfolk Southern Railroad as a carman for 35 years and was a lifetime union member. Norman loved fishing and building crafts with his grandchildren, an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan and very active with the Jay Cee’s International where he held several positions including Illinois State CO-chair for Muscular Dystrophy and was the Regional Director of the Mississippi River Valley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence H. & Vera E. nee Bilzing, Bivins; son Darius Bivins; brothers, Marvin, Roger, Raymond & Wade Bivins; sister-in-law Amanda Bivins.
Surviving are his son Travis (Chris) Bivins; grandchildren: Tiffany Bivins, Anthony Bivins, Andrew Bivins and Cody Bivins; sisters: Vera Freppon and Carla (Mark) Griffith; brother Joe Bivins; sister-in-law: Paula Bivins and survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions in honor of Norman may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and can be received at Leesman Funeral Home, Dupo, IL.
Visitation: Family and friends may visit from 4:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M Monday, June 24th, 2024 and from 9:00 A.M to 10:00 A.M Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo, IL.
Funeral: Services for Norman will be 10:00 A.M Tuesday from Leesman Funeral Home with burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis where he will receive full military honors.
