Melvin J. Schaller's Obituary
Melvin J. Schaller, 88 years of Millstadt, IL, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Oak Hill Care Center in Waterloo, IL. He was born December 21, 1934, in Millstadt, IL.
Melvin started farming upon his father's death at age 13 with his mother and brother and continued to be active on the farm until recently when he entered Oak Hill Rehab Center after a brief hospital stay. Melvin served his country in the U S Army as a young man. His entire life all Melvin knew was family and farming. Then 16 years ago, he found what made his life complete, Edna. She brought him great joy and happiness day in and day out. He was a simple man that worked hard his whole life and was proud of what the family farm has grown to and now has the fifth generation involved. He was truly appreciative of what the Lord blessed him with. Melvin was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, IL, Knights of Columbus Council 4741, Millstadt Commercial Club and the National Farmers Organization.
Surviving are his special friend Edna Quirin and her family, his sister, Shirley Simmonds, his nephews, Kevin Schaller (Carol Schaefer), Brad (Eileen) Schaller, Mike (Jamie) Simmonds, Doug (Kelly) Simmonds and David Simmonds, his great nieces and nephews, Amanda (Ryan) Wolff, Lauren Simmonds, Nicholas Simmonds, Hannah Simmonds, Emily Simmonds, Travis (Vanessa) Schaller, Brooke (Michael) Ludgate, Dylan (Megan) Schaller and Ashley (Tom) Bridges, along with great great nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter A. and Alma, nee, Sutter, Schaller Sr., his brother and sister-in-law, Walter A. and Doris, nee Rapp, Schaller Jr., and his brother-in-law, Norman Simmonds.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, from 9:00 am - 11:00 am, at Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday January 3, 2023, at Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt, IL., with Fr. Marvin C. Volk officiating. Interment will follow in the St. James Catholic Cemetery, Millstadt, IL.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, IL. Arrangements were handled by Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt, IL.
