Marvin D Hosler's Obituary
Marvin Dale Hosler peacefully passed away on Friday, October 22nd at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joan, his parents, Lewis & Mary, & his brothers, Harlan and Donald. He has left behind his son, Steve Hosler of Columbia and daughter, Victoria Hosler Whelan of Ballwin, Missouri. Dad was a grandfather to Eric, Emily, Andrew, Matthew, Lori, Elizabeth and 13 great-grandchildren.
Marvin was born on July 29, 1928 in East St. Louis, Illinois. In 1945, at the age of 18, he served in the US Marine Corp. On June 12, 1954, he married the love of his life, Joan Looser. They raised two children and called Columbia, Illinois their home. For over 45 years, he worked as a machinist for Monsanto Corp.
Dad was the fixer. He could fix anything. He loved tinkering in his electronics shop and had a real talent for woodworking. Very much a perfectionist in all that he did. But above all, I’m sure that all who knew him would agree, he had a unique sense of humor. One that will be in many family stories for years to come, and that’s a good thing.
My brother and I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in dad’s difficult, final years. The staff at Garden Place in Columbia and Delmar Gardens South have been like family to him. Steve and I will always be grateful for all that they have done to help our family. And to our family and friends, we thank you for enduring the ups and downs with us.
Services will be held at 12pm on Tuesday, October 26th at Leesman Funeral Home in Columbia for his immediate family. Dad will be laid to rest at Valhalla Cemetery in Belleville, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Siteman Cancer Center.
