Marvin W. Greatting's Obituary
Marvin W. Greatting, 83, of Columbia, IL, passed away at Columbia Convalescent Center, Columbia, IL. He was born in Columbia, IL, the son of the late Roland and Maime (Kuehne) Greatting. Mr. Greatting was the former owner of Greatting's Market, Columbia, IL, for over 30 years. After he closed the market he was employed at The Market Place in Columbia, IL, and Roma's in Waterloo, IL. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the World War II, at which time he was in one of the first units to return to Shangai, China.. Marvin was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Columbia, IL, and American Legion Post #581, Columbia, IL, where he served on the Drill Team. Marvin enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, golf, and gardening. He was married to Pauline (Heumann) Greatting, who survives him. They were married on October 2, 1949 in Red Bud, IL.
