Martha Hanebutt's Obituary
Ruma- Martha Hanebutt, 93, of Ruma, passed away at 12:50 PM, Thursday, November 4, 2021, at R and R Country Care in Ruma.
Martha was born on September 25, 1928, in the big house across from the Lutheran School in Red Bud to Gustive and Adele (Guebert) Krause. She married Elroy Hanebutt on August 27, 1950, in Ruma. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1990.
Martha was a loyal, faithful, and hardworking woman. She graduated from business school in St. Louis. She worked many years at KromeKraft in St. Louis until she was married.
She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ruma where she was Sunday school teacher, organist, janitor and lawn care specialist. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and the Wednesday quilting club. She was an active participant and planner in chicken dinners and apple butter making and helped organize the Lutheran Thrivent picnics.
Martha loved spending time outdoors with her family hunting mushrooms and hiking. She spent time in her younger days playing baseball and basketball and had a keen interest in writing and genealogy. She has authored four books about her family’s history. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her son- Ricky Hanebutt of Tennessee, daughter- Wendy Dodd of Belleville, 6 grandchildren- Dwayne (Gina) Hanebutt and Phillip (Eliana) Hanebutt of Washington, DC, Chelsea (Adam) Lewis of Steelville, Jeff (Ellen)Schlueter of Evansville, Mindy Remick of Freeburg and Jeremy (Kimberly) Schlueter of Evansville, 8 great grandchildren- Emma Hanebutt, Madeline Hanebutt, Byron and Lyle Schlueter, Cassy and Tyler Remick and Emma and Hailey Schlueter and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother- Ervin Krause.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 8, 2021, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ruma. Pastor Clifford Adair will officiate. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 Am until time of service, Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ruma. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Leesman Funeral Home in Red Bud.
