Marion Leroy Flowers' Obituary
Marion Leroy Flowers, 86 years of Millstadt, IL, passed away on October 3, 2017 at St. Anthony's Hospital, St. Louis, MO. He was born August 16, 1931, in Houston, MO, son of the late Harley C. and Elvira M., nee Copeland, Flowers. He was married to Wanda L., nee Dace, Flowers, who survives him. They were married June 14, 1952, in Piggot, AR, and enjoyed 65 years together.
Leroy enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping especially with family taking time while camping to visit antique shops, swap meets and yard sales and various “interesting” places. He also enjoyed planting a garden every summer. He enjoyed bowling with family and church friends after he retired. He retired from Nooter Corporation after 45 years, where he started as a welder/fit-up man and finished his career as a supervisor. He was a member of the company bowling and skeet clubs, where he was awarded several trophies for his performance. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal w/ 2 Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Medal, and Good Conduct Medal, served his time and was honorably discharged.
Surviving are four sons, Michael Flowers of Dupo, IL, Don (Diane) Flowers of Millstadt, IL, David (Sue) Flowers of Oceanside, CA, and Steve (Yvonne) Flowers of Millstadt, IL; grandchildren, Dan (Megan), Jarred (Shannon), Josh (Carmen), Jacob (Julie), Justin (Abbey), and Jenna Flowers, Linda (Paul) Haisty, B.J. (Allison) Hutchinson, Nathan (Mike) Flowers, Dawn (Steve) Menke, and David (Shanelle) Huffman; eighteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mavis Massey of Belleville, IL, Willa Jean Kirchmann of Florissant, MO, and Betty (Jerry) Lesure of Columbia, MO; brother, Jim (Alberta) Flowers of Ellington, MO, along with other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Flowers; daughters-in-law, Teresa Flowers and Joni Flowers; grandchild, Dean Hutchinson; three sisters, Eloise Chitwood, Jan Wilhelm, and Wanda Flowers; and brothers, Arnold and Carl "Bud" Flowers, along with two brothers in infancy.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 8, 2017, 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm, at Lawlor Funeral Home, Columbia, IL. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, October 9, 2017, at the funeral home, with Pastor Dennis Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Valhalla Gardens Of Memory, Belleville, IL.
