Larry G Lindhorst's Obituary
Larry Gene Lindhorst of Columbia, IL., was called home to Heaven on March 2, 2025, at Cedarhurst Assisted Living in Waterloo, IL. He was 89 years old and was born on September 19, 1935 in Dupo, IL.
Surviving is his son, Randy (Tonda) Lindhorst; daughter, Debra (Kenneth) Nash; sister, Diane Smith; brother, Bruce (Brenda) Dixon; brother-in-law, Orval (Mary) Riebeling; sister-in-law, Beverly Bivins. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, honorary grand kids, loved ones and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by; his loving wife of 57 years, Evelyn; father, Frank Lindhorst; mother, Virginia Dixon (nee White); infant sister, Cheryl Dixon; sister, Janet Minton; brother, Mike Lindhorst; along with several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Larry proudly served in the U.S. Army during which time he married Evelyn Riebeling on June 5, 1954, and they had two children, Randy and Debra. Larry retired from General Motors after 30 years of dedicated service. Through the years Larry was the family handyman because he was able to fix anything. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone that needed it. Larry was a devoted church member for over 35 years at Emmanuel Assembly of God in Cahokia, IL
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and honorary "PaPa". Larry always set the best example of being a loving and Christian man. He taught his family how to work hard and be honest. He emphasized living a simple life, never putting possessions or money in front of family or his relationship with Jesus. His family was very proud of how he took care of his wife for over seven years after her strokes.
When Larry did have free time he was an avid fisherman which the family loved because it would always result in a good fish fry.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Cedarhurst of Waterloo for their loving care and for making his wish of a fishing day possible. They would also like to thank hospice of Southern Illinois for their care and compassion.
Visitation will be held on Saturday March 8, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Leesman Funeral Home, Dupo, IL. Funeral service will be Saturday March 8, 2025 at 12:30 PM at Leesman Funeral Home, Dupo, IL. Burial with military honors will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville, IL.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to Emmanuel Assembly of God in Cahokia, IL. with envelopes available at the funeral home.
