Larry Gene Byrd's Obituary
Larry Gene Byrd, 75 years of Dupo, IL, passed away on May 29, 2025, at Delmar Gardens on the Green, Saint Louis, MO. He was born January 24, 1950, at Scott Air Force Base, to Ray and Hazel (nee Allbright) Byrd.
Larry proudly served in the US Army and was stationed in Vietnam. He worked for the St. Louis Post Dispatch for 32 years. On April 24, 1976, he married the love of his life, Janice. An avid collector, Larry enjoyed collecting baseball cards and coins, especially nickels. He loved learning about history and was a true history buff. His favorite sports teams were the St. Louis Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys. Larry also loved listening to classic country music and the oldies. An avid chess player, he taught both of his children and all three grandchildren how to play.
Some of his most cherished times were those spent with his family.
Surviving are his Wife, Janice (nee DeWees) Byrd; Son, Michael (Jlyn) Byrd; Daughter, Lori Byrd; Grandchildren, Michael, Maya and Ashton; Brothers, Steve (Kathi) Byrd and Ray (Edna) Byrd, along with many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Ray Byrd; Mother, Hazel (Ed) Allbright Gibson; Brothers Tommy Byrd and Denny Byrd.
Interment will take place in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO on June 27, 2025, at 10:30 am. A procession will leave Leesman Funeral Home-Dupo, at 9:45 am.
