John J. Schmiskie's Obituary
John J. Schmiskie, 93 years, of Columbia, IL, passed away on April 21, 2018 at Cedarhurst - Memory Care, Waterloo, IL. He was born August 19, 1924, in Mulberry, KS, son of the late John and Dollie, nee Hewkin, Schmiskie. He was married to Arleen, nee Faitz, Schmiskie, who survives him. They were married June 19, 1948, in Troy, IL.
John had retired from Ameren - Union Electric. He had served in the U.S. Merchant Marines, was a Veteran of WW II, and was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Columbia, IL.
Also, surviving are three daughters, Judith Zellers of Oviedo, FL, Paula Honey of Carbondale, IL, and Nyla (Roger) Rednour of Prairie DuRocher, IL; a son, Ronald Schmiskie of Dupo, IL; a sister, Pauline Willingham of Bluffton, SC; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren, along with other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Kenneth Schmiskie, and Robert Schmiskie, along with three sisters, Ruth Stoner, Delores Hohrein, and Doris Conner.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Lawlor Funeral Home, Columbia, IL. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, April 25, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Columbia, IL, with Pastor Kris Avise-Rouse, officiating. Entombment will follow at the Valhalla Gardens Of Memory, Belleville, IL.
