Joan Ellen Rahn's Obituary
Joan Ellen Rahn, 87 years of Red Bud, IL, passed away on April 25, 2023 at Red Bud Regional Care, Red Bud, IL. She was born July 8, 1935, in Granite City, IL.
On, August 31, 1955, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Red Bud, IL she was united in marriage to Gerald "Jerry" Russell Rahn and to this union three children were born. They shared sixty seven years of marriage together.
Joan worked for the City of Red Bud as the Assistant City Clerk for 33 years before she retired. She was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Red Bud, IL and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed traveling, was an avid reader, going bowling, camping and doing aerobics, but most of all she loved the time spent with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald "Jerry" Russell Rahn of Red Bud, IL, three children, Steve (Jennifer) Rahn of Springfield, IL, Scott (Laurie) Rahn of St. Louis, and Stuart (Michelle) Rahn of Fenton, her five grandchildren, Jarrod (Diana) Rahn, Justin (Jessica) Rahn, Katherine "Katie" Rahn, Jackson Rahn, and Benjamin Rahn, her five great-grandchildren, Morgan Rahn, Maura Rahn, Maxwell Rahn, Jack Rahn, and Mary Dooley Rahn, her two sisters, Imogene Toal of Waterloo, IL, and Maureen Cotton of Dallas, TX, her sister-in-law, Faye Rahn of Waterloo, IL, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank McCarthy, Sr.; mother, Luella McCarthy; grandchild, Alex Rahn; her two Brothers, Frank McCarthy, Jr. and Jerry McCarthy; her three Sisters, Rose Marie Guebert, Anna Mae Braun, and Mary Jane McCarthy.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 27, 2023, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Leesman Funeral Home, Red Bud, IL. Services will be held , Friday April 28, 2023 at 11:30 am, at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, Red Bud, IL with Father Dennis Schaefer officiating. Interment will follow in the St John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Red Bud, IL.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to Alzheimer's Association of St. Louis 9370 Olive Street Rd., Olivette, MO 63132 .
