Joan Marie Godsy's Obituary
Joan Marie Godsy, nee Franke, 82, of Millstadt, passed away at 10:13 AM, Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Cedarhurst Memory Care in Waterloo.
She was born on May 13, 1940 in Belleville to Oliver and Norma (Etling) Franke. She married Dwight Godsy September 24, 1960 in Belleville.
Joan was a legal secretary in Belleville and was active in the Belle-Clair Legal Secretary Association in which she was awarded Legal Secretary of the year in 1972. Joan was a member of Zion Evangelical Church in Millstadt.
Joan was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy. If the grandkids were visiting, you could expect a spirited game of Sorry or Rummy to break out and several chorus’ of “You Are My Sunshine” to be sung. Joan was a wonderful cook and baker and enjoyed working in her flower garden. Joan looked forward to her yearly trip to Branson that she started taking with her mom over 32 years ago. Joan was a diehard Cardinals fan.
Surviving are her husband- Dwight Godsy of Millstadt; daughter- Kimberly (Richard) Wegner, son- Eric (Jennifer) Godsy all of Millstadt; loving grandchildren Amanda Wegner (Connor Odum), Zachary Wegner, Taylor and Tyler Godsy, Savannah and Gabrielle Barbarotto, Danielle Barbarotto (Jordan Pickens) and their son Carter; special aunt Shirley Brandenburger; brother-in-law Dale Godsy (Linda Tinker); sister-in-laws- JoAnn (Johnny) Hosler, Mary (Milton) Peterson, special cousins- Lori (James) Becherer, Sharon (Dewayne) Holloway, Jeri (Jonathan) Arnold, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Norma, nee Etling, Franke; her brother James Franke; dear uncle Dale Brandenburger; father and mother-in-law Monta and Oneita, nee Jaco, Godsy; brother-in-law Johnny Godsy and dear sister-in-law Eve Godsy.
The visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service, Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt. Pastor Darrell Weber will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery in Millstadt.

Memorials donations are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
