Jean Ann Upchurch's Obituary
Jean Upchurch was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, daughter of the late Henry and Artinca (Miller) Haman. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Columbia, IL. She was the wife of the late Carl Upchurch. They were married in Cape Girardeau, MO on June 7, 1953. He passed away on January 3, 2003.A 1951 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, Mrs. Upchurch taught for six years in the Cahokia Public Schools, after taking time off to raise her family, taught for sixteen years at Gibault Catholic High School, retiring in October 1994. She also had various careers, as a substitute teacher, manager of the Senior Nutrition Site in Columbia, teaching night classes at Belleville Area College, as well as serving as co-owner and operator of Upchurch Properties with her late husband. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia, a proud member of the Republican Party (helping her husband during his tenure as Monroe County Commissioner, and daughter Julie as Monroe County Coroner), and volunteered in numerous organizations through the years, including CURE Childhood Cancer and Leukemia, Girl Scouts, and the Columbia PTA.Visitation11 AM - 1 PM, Saturday, October 11, 2008 Lawlor Funeral Home
