James "Jim" Vernon Carroll's Obituary
James “Jim” Vernon Carroll, 72, of Red Bud, Illinois, passed away at 7:53 pm, Tuesday, March
28, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born to the late Lawrence and Mabel (nee Candler) Carroll on November 25, 1950,
in Red Bud, Illinois.
On July 13, 1969, Jim married his soul mate, Rebecca “Becky” (nee Alexander) Carroll. They
were blessed with 53 years of a loving marriage. They began their lives together, residing in
St. Louis, MO, where they had their first child, John Michael Carroll. Their only daughter and
second child, Sarah Jane (nee Carroll) Kueker, was born in 1971, before they began planting
their roots in Red Bud, IL, in 1973. There, they raised their children, built a life for
themselves, and welcomed their third child, Benjamin “Ben” Scott Carroll, in 1978. Some of
their best memories together could be remembered traveling across the country, cruising
on their pontoon boat, and camping together as a family.
Jim was a career entrepreneur who began by opening an agricultural supply store and later
founded Carroll Pest Control LLC, which still operates today. He enjoyed meeting and
conversing with anyone he crossed paths with and always had a smile on his face.
Providing excellent customer service and building long-term relationships was something
he prided himself in. Jim retired as a business owner in 2016 after his son, Ben, took the
mantle of the family business
Jim was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ruma, IL, where he served as an elder
for almost a decade. With a tremendous passion for sports and supporting the local youth,
he took leadership and coaching positions with the Red Bud Muskets, St. John’s Lutheran
Cougars, and Christ Our Savior Soldiers. As a movie fanatic and music enthusiast, Jim
cherished these relaxing moments with his wife and family. Out of all the things that
brought Jim joy, his family always brought a smile to his face. Whether it be woodworking
with his children or simply watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play in the
backyard, he always loved these moments as a “Papa.”
Jim was a devout Christian who lived his life in accordance with the Lord all the way to his
last days. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family, whom he will once meet again.
Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. with a memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ruma, IL.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to the Carroll family. Arrangements were handled by Leesman Funeral Home in Red Bud, IL.
